Samsung released the One UI 9 (Android 17) update to several eligible Galaxy phones this week. Following its initial rollout for the Galaxy Z Flip 5 in Korea last week and in several global markets yesterday, the update is now available for the foldable phone in the US.
One UI 9 update now available for Galaxy Z Flip 5 in the US
The One UI 9 update is currently rolling out for the carrier-locked version of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 in the US, carrying firmware version F731USQU8HZIJ. It also includes the October 2026 security patch. While the factory-unlocked variant hasn't started receiving the update yet, its release is likely imminent.
If you own a Galaxy Z Flip 5 in the US, you can check for the new software by opening the Settings app, scrolling down and tapping on Software update, and clicking the Check for updates button.
If the update is available, it will begin downloading immediately. Once the download is complete, ensure your phone has at least a 30% battery charge, then tap Restart now to begin the installation process.
One UI 9 is Galaxy Z Flip 5's last major software update. The phone was launched in 2023 with Android 13 onboard, and Samsung promised to offer it four major Android OS updates.
Upgrade To Galaxy Z Flip 8
What does One UI 9 bring to the Galaxy Z Flip 5?
One UI 9 delivers all the underlying improvements Google introduced with Android 17. The update also introduces a more customizable Quick Panel and lock screen clock widget, along with Interpreter mode for face-to-face language translation.
On the cover screen, users can now run more apps, customize widgets, and easily access both notifications and the Quick Panel.
Additionally, the Settings app now features a dedicated Warranty and care section. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 also offers greater location transparency and new AI privacy alerts.
Samsung has also included a new version of Bixby, powered by large language models (LLMs) to better understand natural language and remember conversational context. Thanks to Perplexity integration, Bixby can now fetch more accurate and detailed information from the web. You can also access the voice assistant directly from new home screen widgets.
